Your Guide to Juneteenth 2026 Celebrations Across the Gulf Coast
Juneteenth commemorates June 19, 1865, the day Union soldiers arrived in Galveston, Texas, and announced that enslaved African Americans were free more than two years after President Abraham Lincoln signed the Emancipation Proclamation. The holiday marks a pivotal moment in American history and celebrates freedom, resilience, culture, and community. Today, Juneteenth is observed across the nation through festivals, educational programs, community gatherings, and events that honor the contributions and achievements of African Americans.
Across Pensacola, Mobile, Prichard, Africatown, and the Gulf Coast, organizations continue the tradition with events that educate, inspire, and unite communities. Opportunities to celebrate Juneteenth include spoken word, historical reflections, family festivals, wellness experiences, and parades.
