Celebrating Robert E. Clopton Sr. Day 1 2023 Hero of Gratitude

In community activism and civil rights, Robert E. Clopton Sr., President of The Mobile County NAACP, stands strong “A Beacon of Commitment and Passion for Racial Justice and Equity.” Mentors helped shape his journey. His unwavering support for Vivian’s Door truly sets him apart. To celebrate our 3rd Annual Vivian’s Door Gratitude Challenge, we delve into Mr. Clopton’s perspectives, shedding light on his invaluable contributions.

Entering the Realm of Activism

Entering the world of the NAACP, Mr. Clopton embraced the ethos of volunteerism and advocacy. “The NAACP is an all-volunteer organization, actively engaging, supporting, advocating, agitating, and seeking legislative help for all people facing discrimination,” he notes, reflecting his deep-rooted commitment to fostering equality within the community.

Mentorship and Roots of Inspiration

Drawing inspiration from his late brother and father, Mr. Clopton acknowledges the profound impact of family mentors. “None greater than my father and brother,” he emphasizes, highlighting these figures’ pivotal role in shaping his values and commitment to community service.

Vivian’s Door: A Source of Inspiration

Mr. Clopton’s decision to support Vivian’s Door stems from the contagious energy and can-do attitude of the Malone family. “Their commitment to empowering others for economic development and job creation is contagious,” he states, aligning with his personal philosophy of doing unto others as you would have them do unto you.

Impact on the Community and Philanthropic Goals

Reflecting on Vivian’s Door’s positive impact, Mr. Clopton sees a synergy with his own philanthropic goals. The organization provides opportunities for small businesses, resonating with his lifelong goal of positively impacting lives through volunteerism and community engagement.

Commitment Reinforced

For Mr. Clopton, the “Lift: Together We Rise initiative,” where he actively participated in the final presentations of Streetwise MBA graduates, reinforces his commitment to the Vivians Door vision. His mentorship and role as a bridge between Vivian’s Door and the community have been remarkable. Furthermore, he notes, “After engaging with the Malone family and witnessing their unwavering commitment to prosperity for the community, it stands out as a compelling commitment.”

Understanding Community Challenges

His involvement with Vivian’s Door broadened Mr. Clopton’s understanding of underserved communities’ challenges. He observes, “Discriminatory practices, limited budgets, lack of access to capital, strengthened networks and connections are hurdles Vivian’s Door seeks to overcome by providing training, mentorship, and resources.”

Meaningful Initiatives and Personal Contributions

Mr. Clopton highlights the “Lift: Together We Rise initiative,” where he actively participated in the final presentations of Streetwise MBA graduates. His mentorship and role as a bridge between Vivian’s Door and the community at large have been instrumental.

Enriching Personal and Professional Life

Supporting Vivian’s Door has enriched Mr. Clopton’s life, creating lasting relationships with like-minded individuals determined to succeed and help others. As Vivian’s Door grows, so does the network of those committed to making a difference.

Furthermore, he notes, “Vivian’s Door has allowed small businesses to excel, grow, and improve their bottom lines through providing access to capital, mentorship, networks, connections, and resources to improve their profitability. That resonates with my goals as I have volunteered since age 22 and became a full-time volunteer in 2010 to give back to the communities and positively impact someone’s livelihood by improving their current position or status. Mother Theresa’s quote inspires me and helps me reach my goals, “Change one, change the world’.”
